Installing aluminum fence is a little different than traditional wood. With wood you can manipulate the material, you can bend it if necessary or just shave some off. Unfortunately, wood doesn’t last overly long unless it gets regular maintenance and soon you’ll find yourself out in the shed making a new wood fence every several years. The nice part about wood is that it’s perfect for the short-term home owner or just impulse builder. You can build a wood fence with little to no planning and (sometimes) it will still turn out very nice. But again, will it last?

Aluminum Fencing is practically maintenance free. It’s durable, light-weight, and practically impervious to the elements. Usually high levels of moisture in the air will wreak havoc on a wood fence, but not aluminum. Whether it’s excessively damp, windy, or sunny, aluminum stands the test of time. And with a powder coating this becomes even more true. So why doesn’t everyone use aluminum? It’s a longer term investment, which means more cost (despite aluminum being the most cost-effective fencing material around), and it requires far more planning.

An aluminum fence has absolutely no give. It’s made to be solid and solid it is. All the pieces come made to fit together snugly and it’s important that they do. Stake your post holes and tie them off to ensure a straight line.

Double check your measurements to make sure that the width of your Post is added to the overall width of your fence.

Make sure your gate posts are dug deeper than the other posts. 48″ should do it.

I know it’s tempting to rush finish the project when you see the posts sitting in the “almost dry” cement. Don’t do it. Wait. Let your cement dry completely, your fence will ultimately be stronger for it in the long run.
