Why Carpets Still Beat the Competition

“While hardwood, laminate and parquet flooring sales have been on the rise during the last decade, carpet is making a comeback and still beats the competition hands down. Industry professionals agree that, with an immense selection of colours, styles and fabrics, low cost and hassle-free cleaning and replacement, carpet is still the best bet and here’s why:
Comfort: nothing says home like plush, warm carpeting in your sitting room. You will be creating a more inviting atmosphere as well as an energy-friendly one, as your carpet acts as an extra insulating layer, saving you on home heating bills. In the current cold spell, this is a huge bonus. Rather than freezing your tootsies off padding across a cold hardwood or tile floor during the winter months, you will remain warm and cozy, keeping cash in your pocket in the process.
Cost: despite the decrease in laminate and hardwood flooring costs, carpet remains the cheapest option for home and office alike. Cleaning and refurbishment of wood or tile floors is time-consuming and cost and labour intensive and needs to happen far more often than professional carpet cleaning. In terms of end of tenancy cleaning london companies report laminate and hardwood in need of replacement three times as often as carpets. Proper hardwoods require constant treatment at considerable expense and, let’s face it; a floor buffer is going to take up a good deal more room in your pantry than reliable old Henry Hoover.
Cleaning: while “easy cleaning” is a big selling point for laminate flooring, this is not always the case. Dragging a Swiffer across the floor once a week may seem like a hassle-free task but this is only the half of it. Nicks and scratches caused by kids, furniture and stiletto heels require more than a damp cloth to get rid of, and it will cost you plenty to do so. Reputable laminate and hardwood repair companies are hard to find and can be expensive when you do. For carpet cleaning london companies make the process widely available and, given a healthy degree of competition in the business, it is increasingly affordable.
Taking into consideration the average lifespan for laminate flooring, about five years, and the repair and refurbishment costs involved, a well cared for carpet will last up to three times as long and pose far fewer hassles. When you’re next out shopping for new floors, keep comfort, cost and cleaning in mind and chances are you will be coming home with beautiful new home carpets.”

Proper maintenance of air quality in homes and offices is important for a healthier life. At times, there is a lot of contaminated air at homes and workplaces which leads to a variety of diseases in the living areas.

Mostly, contamination of air is caused by dirty and filthy air ducts installed indoors. Ducts are pathways and outlet for air emitted by various HVAC systems. HVAC systems or the heating, ventilation and Air conditioning systems emit air into our living rooms and workplaces. If this air is contaminated then it can be harmful for the inhabitants.

The air emitted out of the ducts gets contaminated if the ducts remain unclean and poorly maintained for long. Ducts are long passages from where air reaches out of the outlets. Ducts attached with heating equipments or furnaces have a generally warm environment inside. These warm ducts prove to be ideal breeding ground for the growth of bacterial spores etc.

The growth of harmful bacteria and clinging dirt and filth in the ducts results in contamination of air. Hence, there is emission of impure air into the living spaces along with germs and harmful elements in the air. Hence, one needs regular cleaning and maintenance of ducts to avoid any unhygienic growth in ducts and the possible contamination of air.

There are various cleaning companies in Vancouver who provide quality and standardized duct cleaning services for a germ-free and pure air in the living area. These cleaning companies offer cleaning, disinfection and maintenance services for the HVAC systems as well as ducts to ensure proper working and hygiene of these systems.

Although at www.meaco.com we sell air conditioners we realise that for the sake of the planet we should be looking for other ways to keep cool as well whether to make our air conditioning more efficient or to stay without any air conditioning at all. Below are eight ideas to keep you cool without an air conditioner;

1. Turn things off

If you not using an electrical appliance or a light then turn it off. All electrical appliances give off heat, whether it is a television, computer or a phone charger. They all give off heat. When you are not using them – turn them off.

2. Close your curtains

Most heat comes through windows from the sun, keep curtains and blinds closed to prevent the sun from superheating your room.

3. Don’t open your windows

Seems strange but while it is hotter outside than in don’t open your windows. If you do then you will be letting in hot air and warming up the house. Open windows when the sun has gone down to ventilate the house and let in the cooler night air. When the air is cooler on the outside than it is on the inside, having windows open on both sides of a house will create a through breeze and cool the house down quicker. Keep the internal doors open to help the draught. Point fans to the outside through an open window on the down wind side of the house to push out the hot air.

4. Be Green-fingered

If your house has a south facing garden and is heating up then plant some climbing plants on a trellis to shade the house. Ivy will stay green in the winter but you might want to benefit from the low sun in the winter so Virginia Creeper might be better because it dies off in the winter.

5. Insulate Your Pipes

Make sure that all of your hot water pipes are insulated.

6. Go Australian!

Avoid turning on the oven. Eat lots of salads and cook outside.

7. Move your fridge

Fridges give off a lot of heat. Move it out from the wall so that air can circulate around the back of it to make it’s cooling more efficient.

8. Insulate your house

Good insulation keeps your cool in summer as well as warm in winter.

Small Solar Panels for the Home

Solar energy has been around since the planet came into being and its uses have only begun to be tapped to run not only our homes and offices but our vehicles as well. Solar energy has many advantages and should be recommended to one and all as the energy source of choice for the home. Firstly, a renewable energy source has no capacity to run out. It is also a form of clean energy and it greatly reduces on pollution. This is opposed to other forms of energy that are currently being used that focus on fossil fuels which pollute the environment, cause global warming and are not renewable.

Solar energy is an infinite source of energy and if properly tapped into it can be used to run the home in an efficient manner all year round. Small solar panels are a good solution for any home as they have the capacity to run the appliances within the home as the regular grid powered electricity does. They do not cause pollution and are cost effective. In as much as it may be expensive to install in the long run it is actually cheaper to use this type of energy as opposed to the regular grid power.

The small solar panels are capable of providing the home with electricity where the main or national grid does not have access. It is a good solution for those that live in remote or rural areas and it is reliable. These panels use both scattered and direct sunrays to generate the power and as such, the homeowner is assured of electricity even on a day when the sun may be partially hidden by clouds. With solar energy, there is the option of storing energy that is not available with the regular forms of electricity. The energy is stored in the batteries that come with the solar kit and this can be used when the regular power fails or it can be sold to the utility company. These panels work best where there is direct sunlight available daily for most if not all days of the year and they are both practical and economical. They are workable in what every region the sun is available and they can be used totally separate from the regular power sources.

Before they are installed, there must be a clear unobstructed section on the roof that allows the panel to capture the light adequately and the roof needs to be large enough to handle the panel. If there are any permits that need to be filled in or covenants that need to be met with regards to one organization or another they must be filled in before any work on the solar can begin. This is a good option for power for the home and business and there are tax incentives available both locally and from the federal government. These are an added advantage to the home that has solar energy as its main or secondary source of energy.

When you want to add beautiful details to your woodworking projects, v-groove router bits make it easy. The v-groove bit is used with your router to make v-shaped profiles in the center of a piece of stock wood, and at various depths so that the finished results are shallow, narrow, deep or wide.

Whether you are new to woodworking or an old pro, you want your projects to be something you are proud to show off. V-groove router bits let you dress up your creations with a decorative edge, giving you clean, even results. These are commonly used on street address signs for homes, and are useful in many other applications.

A v-groove router lets you turn what may otherwise be a plain project in to one that is beautifully detailed. Whether you are building a bench, country cabinet, bookcase or something altogether different, you can dress things up immensely by adding a unique touch. If you’re really feeling creative, you can even create tongue and groove boards to install diagonally across your entry door – beautiful!

When you transform your router in to a v-groove router by using the bit you need, which should you use? Carbide (tungsten carbide) tipped bits are manufactured of an extremely hard material that remains sharp for a longer period of time than steel bits, and are heat resistant. A steel v-groove bit is great when you only use it in your router occasionally, but carbide generally lasts about 20 times longer than high speed steel (HSS.)

Woodworking allows you to save a substantial amount of money, especially if you build kitchen cabinet doors and other furnishings that are usually expensive. If you want to dress up your projects, using a v-groove router (router with v-groove bit inserted) will give you professional, clean-cut designs that make your creations look just as beautiful as any you would buy.

When you need to cut grooves and deep mortises, an up-cut spiral router bit works wonders. You can create a flat bottom to the mortise, as the end of the bit has square edges that cut with precision. Chips will not pack in to the mortise, as the cutting edge works to pull any loose chips up and out of the groove, which you won’t find with a straight router bit. Doing a spiral upcut also works well with a router table because the wood project you are working on is pulled down to the table while you make the cuts.

When cutting a hole or slot, using a spiral upcut helps to remove all chips from the area, which is essential when you are cutting a hole that is deep. While it will still be necessary to perform several light cuts, the flutes of the bit move upward as they spin which helps prevent chips and other wood debris from accumulating in the groove or slot, which can bind the bit or even cause it to break.

One problem some woodworkers experience when doing a spiral upcut is that the upward spiraling of the flutes may fray the edges of the wood as they cut. This damage is usually minimal, especially when you use up cut bits that are high quality. If the edges will be visible when your project is completed, this can be a problem. In most projects, the edges of a mortise are covered by the shoulders of a tenon that will be fit to the mortise, so this doesn’t create a problem, since the chipped or frayed edge of the wood will be hidden once the project is assembled.

When you want your woodworking project to look professional and well designed, using a spiral upcut will really dress up your work. Today, many people build their own cabinets, jewelry boxes, accent tables and other projects. Whether as a hobby or a profession, you want your work to be something you are proud of! Using a spiral upcut can make the difference between a finished project that looks professional and beautiful, and one that looks like you did it yourself.

Furnishings or other woodworking performed in a factory often requires industrial router bits to add design and stability to the products being created. Even if you craft wood items in your own home, you may want to consider industrial router bits if you frequently work on larger products or have a shop outside your home especially for woodworking.

Woodworking is both a hobby for some and a way to make money for others. Industrial router bits allow you to do all kinds of things, from creating strong joints for bookcases, shelves and cabinets to creating grooves and making decorative edges. You can start with a basic piece of wood, and end up with a cabinet, bookshelf, door or piece of furniture that is exquisite in detail.

Here are a few tips before you begin using industrial router bits that will make things simpler – especially if this is your first project.

1. Make sure to use a sharp bit, as one that is dull can easily damage your wood.

2. Practice makes perfect! Before you begin your actual woodworking project, try your router bits out on a scrap piece of wood so that you can determine the best speed for you and how to move through the wood without burning it or causing your router to overheat.

3. Listen to the sound of your router as you practice. You can tell a lot about whether you are moving at an efficient speed that is neither too slow nor too fast by simply listening for a whirring or dragging sound.

Once you use the tips above, you will quickly get the knack for using your industrial router bits.

It’s important to be familiar with the industrial router bits you plan to use, so that you can insert them correctly and adjust the cutting depth. Inserting them correctly is crucial; without a tight connection, a bit could fly off and injure you if the router is operating at a high rate of speed. Whether you are a hobbyist just starting out in woodworking, or you build furniture or other wood goods for a living, industrial router bits will come in handy for creating unique, beautiful pieces.
